Welcome to Rome

From Maniago we went to finish our honeymoon in the eternal city, ROME!
As I stated on the previous page, on our honeymoon, "for obvious reasons I never found the time to take a single photo". However on the second leg of our honeymoon I managed to shoot few.
Is always hard to explain the feelings and emotion that one experiences visiting this most magnificent City, for us it was even more so, if one takes into account that we were still on our honeymoon.
We visited many many cities on our lifetime, however we never visited before or after a city as much as we did Rome, I suppose it was because we were very young and very energetic.

Although in ruins the Roman coliseum is as no other one in the world, and we seen many, as in Verona Italy, France, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia, and many more. In the coliseum if you closed your eyes, you swear that you can still hear the multitude roar and see the emperor thumb down a loosing gladiator.

We visited the St. Peter Basilica, and found everything breathtaking. (The present St. Peter's basilica was started by Pope Julius II in 1506 and completed in 1615 under Paul V. It is designed as a three-aisled Latin cross with a dome at the crossing, directly above. Is regarded as Michelangelo's greatest architectural achievement. It is also the main cause that spurred Martin Luther to fight for the reformation of the Roman Catholic Church.) The size of statues, altars, paintings and everything else is so very big that one has to see it to believe it.
The art is overwhelming, the Pietà, by Michelangelo, all though very big, is so beautifully detailed that you expect it to spring to life at any moment.

Rome is such a well-balanced city, (or at list it was when we visit it back then); it blends the new with the old (antique) effortlessly. Wherever one turns his yes there is something marvelous to see and photograph. I hope that I gave you an idea of what I tried to do or say with my meager photographic collection.
